The Jacksonville Historical Society Photo Contest, Jacksonville Through the Lens, is generously underwritten by a grant from William H. Jeter, Jr. and Deanne M. Clark.

The grand prize winner will receive $1,000. The Grand Prize winner and other prize winners will be announced at a Photo Exhibit and Award evening in Fall 2017.
Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to enter their best four (4) high resolution images celebrating our community (Duval County) life through a place, an event, the city’s people, the city’s history and architecture, the area’s social or cultural life, or a combination of these categories, including photos of everyday life.
This first annual contest will allow entry photos taken between August 1, 2016 – August 1, 2017. Each individual entrant can submit up to four (4) photos. Each applicant will need to submit one (1) “Entry Agreement/Application” and the “Photo Description Form” must be completed for each photo submission.
JPEG images of photos must be in a resolution between 300 – 600 DPI and/or 1800 x 2400 pixels. Each entry must have a completed “Photo Description Form” and an electronic .jpeg submission. The “Photo Description Form” and electronic .jpeg submission can be found at the the bottom of this page -OR- they can be hand-delivered/mailed to JHS office on a CD/thumb drive. Multiple submissions may be on the CD/thumb drive, while submissions on the website must be done one-at-a-time. Unreadable uploads (Photo Description Form or .jpeg images) will be disqualified. The digital images and entries will be accepted between 11am and 3pm, Monday through Thursday until the contest deadline of Tuesday, August 1st. The address to mail or drop off submissions:

Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than you. You may not submit a photo that has been previously entered in another contest. Your submissions and entry forms are your guarantee that you are the author of the photo.
Images must be appropriate for display. The JHS staff and Contest Judges (TBA) retain sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content. Photos containing recognizable people must be accompanied by a signed “Model Release Form“.
Ownership/Use Rights/Return of Photos:
No watermarks or copyright notices may be added to the images. Submission of your photograph(s) grants the JHS the right to unrestricted and unlimited use of the photo(s), including assignment of the use of photographs.
By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photographs displayed and judged. Submitted photographs will become part of the permanent collection of the JHS.
Photos, regardless of medium, will not be returned. Please do not send your only copy of a photo.
For those who wish to mail or drop-off submissions, please read the Photo Contest Rules, complete and sign the Photo Contest Application, complete the Photo Description Form for each submission and if necessary, the Model Release Form. Only one (1) Application per applicant. Each photo must be accompanied by a Photo Description Form, up to four (4) images submitted.
