The History of the Insurance Industry in Jacksonville
Guest speaker, J. F. Bryan IV, a leading industry executive and former President of Independent Life Insurance, will recount the evolution of the insurance industry in Northeast Florida and its lasting impact on our region. For decades, Jacksonville Florida was nicknamed “The Hartford of the South,” owing to the number of insurance companies based here throughout the twentieth century. How that came to be, and who made it happen, will be the focus of the Jacksonville Historical Society’s September Speaker Series program. Mr. Bryan, IV, will discuss the history of the insurance industry in Jacksonville – the phases of its growth, the business lines it provided, and the people who helped make this the insurance center of the Southeastern United States.
